About Hadrian’s Wall and Housesteads Fort

World famous Hadrian’s Wall runs across what was the most northerly point of the Roman Empire within Britain.

It has 16 permanent bases of which Housesteads Fort is best preserved. Hadrian’s Wall was built around AD122.

The National Trust owns 6 miles of the Wall, running west from Housesteads Fort to Cawfields Quarry.
Housesteads Fort is owned by the National Trust and maintained and managed by English Heritage.

Facilities

Shop and Information at Housesteads car park, Kiosk, Baby-changing facilities, Dogs permitted on leads only due to sheep and ground-nesting birds.
